Operation: Chillout
The Women's Club of Brielle is participating in the Special State Project , Operation Chillout, which benefits homeless veterans. This project is being co-chaired by Tonia Scelfo and Gail Kritch. Members are asked to purchase either online or at a store men's and women's zippered hooded medium or heavyweight sweatshirts (probably the warmer, the better) size large or extra large. Men's colors black, blue, gray, and green camo. Women's colors black, blue, grey, and "ladies colors." Again, the warmer the better. Bring your purchases to the monthly meetings and Randi will deliver them to Headquarters. Those who cannot shop can write a check to the Woman’s Club of Brielle and we will do the shopping for you. Zippered hooded sweatshirts are priced from $10 to $12 (Amazon, Walmart, etc.). We have also been asked to write a little note on a business size card with a sentiment, such as "Thinking of you." (No religious references). Sue Stenson has provided the cards which we'll distribute at our meetings. We'll collect them and mail them to headquarters. They'll be placed in th sweatshirts before distribution to the vets. It's suggested that the cards are decorated in red, white, and blue. The project runs until October 25, 2020.

Creative Arts
The Creative Arts Group made this cute Easter bunnies. Each person brought wash cloths that were to be the color of the bunny. Joan had google eyes, small black pompoms for the nose and cotton balls for the tails. Lucy bought the plastic eggs and jelly beans. We attached the eyes, nose and tail. Rubber bands and ribbon were tied around the wash cloth to make the bunny shape. We made several of the bunnies and put an egg filled with jelly beans inside. Donation to Destiny's Bridge
Cyndi Farley delivered our donation to Destiny's Bridge to Rev. Steve Brigham personally. She thought we would enjoy the pictures of the entry to camp, their supply tent, Rev. Steve giving his Sunday morning sermon in their chapel, and the delivery of our check. Also pictured are custom mailboxes they are making in an attempt to raise some funds. Rev. Steve is meeting with the potential buyer of the property they are camped on, this week to determine what the plan of action will be. At this moment, they have to vacate on July 30th, and are praying they can find another location for their community. It's so hard not to cry. Cnydi said "I personally, can't thank you all enough for your decision to include the homeless in our list of charities".

The Baby Pantry is just one of many community outreaches put forth by The Jersey Shore Dream Center. Our mission is to restore hope and bring relief to families struggling to meet their children’s needs through God’s mercy and love.
In 2017, The Jersey Shore Dream Center Baby Pantry was able to serve 2,400 clients! They helped to put nearly 100,000 diapers on babies’ bottoms across the Jersey Shore. Families received over 1,000 packs of wipes, 1,000 toys (through the “Santa’s Workshop” outreach), clothing, formula, and baby food items.

Club member Agnes Higgins stopped by Nellie F. Bennett Elementary School Tuesday to help Kerry Hannam’s first-grade class celebrate the 100th day of school. PHOTO BY KAYLA MARSH]
POINT PLEASANT — The 100th day of school at Nellie F. Bennett Elementary became a family affair when a special guest stopped by Kerry Hannam’s first-grade class.
On Feb. 13, 100-year-old Agnes Higgins, the grandmother of Mrs. Hannam, talked with students about her school experiences, her childhood memories and the secret to a long, happy life.
“This is a very special visit,” Mrs. Hannam told her first-graders.
Sitting around the classroom reading carpet, students were eager to ask Mrs. Higgins about her large family, which includes 36 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
When one student asked about how she managed to raise and care for 14 children, Mrs. Higgins, a Brielle resident, said there was a lot of love and laughter in her home.
Mrs. Higgins’ late husband, Charles Higgins, a World War II veteran, passed away in 1976.
“We had a lot of fun and we always had company,” she said.

Laura Sweeney is a member of The Woman's Club of Brielle and was the Program Speaker at the general meeting on February 8, 2018.
Laura works full time at Merrill Lynch in Wall as a financial and investment manager and she captivated the members with her knowledge of the law changes for 2018. Laura started her presentation with the fact that the New Jersey Estate Tax will no longer be imposed for individuals dying on or after January 1, 2018. She continued to speak of Trust Funds, RMD (Required Minimum Distribution, different Powers of Attorney and TOD (Transfer on Death) to non retirement accounts which do not go into probate. Laura also spoke of the tax implications of the many aspects of managing and transferring your wealth. Members loved the presentation and left knowing they had to review their existing documents. |

THE WOMAN'S CLUB OF BRIELLE HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS DAY PROCLAMATION WAS READ AND SIGNED BY THE BRIELLE COUNCIL & MAYOR ON DECEMBER 28, 2015. According to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, in 2015 alone there were over 4,168 reported cases of human trafficking here in the United States. Thank you Sheila Carver, Chair of International Outreach & Public Service, for making this Proclamation possible.
